The article analyzes the reasons for the collapse of the market of educational literature for universities, the decline in entrepreneurial activity in this market segment. The issues of quality of published textbooks and manuals are touched upon by both the teaching staff and publishing houses that mass-produce textbooks in the so-called author's edition, i.e. without editing and proofreading. Recommendations are given for overcoming the crisis situation.
