The article focuses on the characteristics of the civil society formation in Pałecznica municipality located in the province of Małopolska (Lesser Poland). Moreover, the article also aims at presenting how important European funds are in the process of shaping and developing civil society. Access to European funds which creates the possibility to finance actions aiming at meeting the needs of the society and implementing bottom-up initiatives has contributed to formalizing these groups, as well as to increasing the civil society awareness.
