From 2017 to 2018, in the conditions of the Kuban experimental station VIR (branch), 112 collection samples of the world collection of VIR lentils were studied, representing 29 countries by geographic origin. The branch of Kuban experimental station VIR is geographically located in the steppe zone of the Prikubanskaya plain. The soil of the experimental plot is ordinary chernozem, slightly leached. The thickness of the humus horizon is 1.20 m. The humus content in the arable horizon of the soil is 3.6%. According to the thermal regime, the climate is characterized as moderately continental with hot summers. The average annual precipitation is 565 mm. Climatic conditions 2017–2018 allowed  one to   harvest  seeds of all studied samples of cultivated lentils. Sources of valuable economic traits have been established: 30 - early maturity, 4 - large-seeded samples, 10 - with high attachment of the lower legume, 13 - with high seed productivity. The selected collection samples of lentils, which have a complex of positive economic characteristics, are a promising source material used in breeding programs in different regions of the Russian Federation to improve the existing zoned assortment of lentils.
