During the period of 2016-2018, 200 samples of spring soft wheat from the VIR collection, of different ecological and geographical origin in the conditions of rain-fed agriculture in the Astrakhan region, were studied. A high level of variability in the weight of grain from the ear and its lake level, plant height and productive bushiness, grain yield in the conditions of this area was determined. Selected samples-with high adaptive capacity, precocity and high productivity-will be recommended for further selection work.
