In his account, Eugeniusz Szumiejko (born on Sept 9, 1946 in Wierobiejki), anti-communist opposition activist, recounts his childhood spent on the territories that were joined to the Soviet Union after the Second World War, resettlements and his later opposition activities.
In the 1980’s Szumiejko, as an important member of both legal and clandestine ‘Solidarity’, often found himself in the center of political events taking place in Poland. Therefore, it is worth paying attention to fragments of his account related to the period of so-called ‘Solidarity carnival’ as well as to descriptions of functioning of democratic underground in the years of the martial law and later (including the National Resistance Committee, the Temporary Coordinating Committee as well as the Regional Strike Committee of Lower Silesia).
