RESUMOO presente artigo tem como intento fazer uma reflexão sobre o instituto da intervenção federal ao longo da história republicana, tentando vislumbrar as razões que levaram o instituto a deixar de ter a prolífica atuação que teve no passado e perquirir se a atuação atual, virtualmente inexistente, representa a desnecessidade no uso do instituto ou negligência do Governo Federal.
