Medicinal eukaryotes, such as plants and fungi, have prompted researchers to conductextensive studies on their medicinal values for drug discovery. Current trends focus onbioactive compounds of medicinal plants to produce inventions in the medical and healthfields. Among many bioactive compounds, polysaccharides attract attention because theyare non-toxic and have no side effects. Polysaccharides have been widely used in food andpharmaceutical industries as a secondary ingredient for several decades. This paperreviewed the applications of polysaccharides as wound healing agents. Wounds can affectthe patient’s well-being, self-image, working capacity and independence. Research studieson different sources of polysaccharides by in vitro and in vivo model have beeninvestigated. Based on the scientific evidence related to polysaccharides, this work will bea baseline study for future investigations in different fields.
