Sparring with Stereotypes

This six-month ethnography focused on the Main Street Boxing Gym in Pinedale, California. The central characters in this case are the young boxers who train at the gym, along with their friends. The Main Street Gym provides young athletes a safe space to explore themselves as athletes and individuals. This case follows the lives of boxers in the gym and helps to uncover the culture of the gym, as well as the gym’s role in the lives of those who train in it.
