The paper describes the major mechanisms of occurrence of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS). Large populationbasedrandomized studies in this area show the importance and prevalence of obstructive sleep respiratory disorders and provideevidence for their clinical significance in the practice of a therapist and cardiologist. Multiple references demonstrate thespecific features of an association of OSAS with cardiovascular diseases, as well as major treatment approaches and methodsat the present stage are given.Key words: obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, pathogenesis, epidemiology, diagnosis, clinical picture, treatment, cardiovasculardiseases
