Карикатурное творчество В.И. Сурикова изучалось преимущественно в советский период, когда требовалась его тенденциозная оценка, поэтому необходимо рассмотреть карикатуру Сурикова с позиций не политических, а исторических и искусствоведческих. В статье рассматриваются карикатуры В.И. Сурикова разных лет, их сюжетное наполнение и художественные качества. V. I. Surikov’s caricature was studied in the Soviet period that is why it got a tendentious assessment. It is the reason to study it now, without any underlying political reasons, from the historical and artistic point of view. The topics of Surikov’s caricatures differ from traditional political and social ones to everyday scenes, his manner is free and informal in these drawings. There were the two main traditions in this genre in the 19th century: the classical European caricature and the Russian lubok, and Surikov inherited both, but no doubt, the second one had a stronger influence on him.
