ILMAC, the Industrial Exhibition for Research and Development, Environmental and Process Technology at the Basel Exhibition Center was held from September 25–28, 2007. This industrial fair covers the full range of chemical process engineering from R&D over pilot plant technologies and engineering to production and waste disposal. During the ILMAC, the Swiss Chemical Society organized a scientific symposium on the sustainable use of energy and resources. International panels of scientists specialized in the field discussed during four days the possible contributions of chemistry and biochemistry to the ever-growing demand for energy in the coming decades.
