Azoic dyes forming amines of MAK class (maximum working concentration) III A1 and A2 (Germany) under reductive conditions will be prohibited, according to the revised German ordinance on consumer goods 'Deutsche Bedarfsgegenständeverordnung', from the summer 1995 on. Also textiles with such dyes will fall under the prohibition. The testing of textiles for the presence of such amines is, though, rather problematic, as material specific uncertainties may occur. We present a new, respectively, improved detection method allowing to combine a conventional thin layer chromotography, with subsequent color detection and HPTLC, by means of an AMD (automatic multiple development) apparatus (made by CAMAG) and a scanner assessment.
