Sulfonic hydrazides were found to react thermally with Ru3(CO)12 without cleavage of the N–N bond resulting in the formation of trinuclear hydrazido clusters. The X-ray structure analysis of the derivative (μ2-H)Ru3(CO)9[μ3-η2-H2NNS(O)2Mes] shows a triangular Ru3 framework capped by an intact N–N unit.
