An attractive concept for the synthesis of triafulvene (1) and calicene (2) by retro-Diels-Alder reaction (RDA reaction) of precursors 3 and 4 is presented. Precursors 3 and 4 are easily available in three steps starting with dibenzobarrelene (5). First thermal-fragmentation experiments are summarized.
