The article deals with little explored city libraries sobriety societies in late XIX - early XXth century. The powers certainly understand the need to struggle drunkenness, but for a long time for sobering up people almost did not take. Arrange reasonable entertainment and organize useful pastime tried sobriety societies, creating a network of free libraries.
