Hurricane Beta passed very close to Providencia and Santa Catalina islands in October 29, 2005 as a moderate category 1 hurricane. Fast surveys carried out fifteen days after the event at 20 sites located on coral reefs, seagrass beds, beaches, and mangroves indicated a low impact over these four ecosystems. In contrast, terrestrial vegetation and island’s infrastructure were severely damaged.
