This paper shows that, due to the powerful* winds from the East (up to 30 m/sec) that prevail in the Santa Marta region from December to March, the warm surface waters of the Santa Marta bay are constantly blown out to the open sea, while deeper and cooler waters the bay. These constant changes have a strong influence in its temperatures and salinity. Likewise, Manzanares river, within the Santa Marta area, was shown to have an effect upon the bay salinity and temperature, as well as on its turbidity.
