In the spring of 1998, a radio station inGhana announced that sixteen Ghanaianwomen had appeared in the nude on theInternet. Widely discussed in the Ghanaianmedia, the public reaction to thisevent seemed to be largely one of shockand moral outrage. The article addressesboth the responses to and possible causesof this phenomenon, drawing attentionto the role of foreign influence and harsheconomic conditions in Ghana. The patriarchalnature of the national debate isquestioned, raising an alternative perspectiveo nthe reality currently faced byGhanaian women.
