The Jewish Community is the oldestnon-governmental agency servingnewcomers in Canada. Its emphasis hasbeen on employing professional, secularsocial work practice. This paper reportson conversations held with the JewishImmigrant Aid Society (JIAS) staff,board members, clients and sponsors.Focus group meetings were held withclients and sponsors in nine Canadiancities from Ottawa to Vancouver. Highlightedare the conclusions that sponsorsand clients have arrived atregarding services the Jewish communityoffers.
