Despite its many advantages, working at sea has always been a risky and dangerous profession. This applies to the lives of seafarers, as well as the marine ecosystem. Every year there are many accidents, that harm people, marine life and fauna. The article provides information about five major maritime accidents that occurred in 2020 and their consequences. Three methods of neutralization of petroleum products trapped in water are considered.
