The problem of this research is the contradiction between the need to introduce the young generation to the culture of printed books as an aesthetic phenomenon and the lack of development of methods for studying font composition in art and pedagogical education. As research methods, we used the study of art history, design and methodical literature on a given topic and the practice of teaching font composition at the Art Graphic Faculty of MPSU during 2010 - 2020. The result of the research is a system of educational and creative tasks for students presented in the article, including: drawing letters of the Russian alphabet on a modular grid; using a font pen to write Gothic and Slavic fonts; a copy of a page or spread of a handwritten book; creating initials; creating a caligram; graphical interpretation of the phrase; title page design; book cover design. The result of using this system of educational and creative tasks was to increase awareness and interest in the students` work, improving their professionalism as artists and teachers.
