The article provides an analytical review of scientific literature on the problem of the formation of artistic and aesthetic needs of the individual, presents various approaches, theses of scientists to solve this problem. The author formulates his vision of the formation of artistic and aesthetic needs as one of the priority directions in the modernization of Russian education.
