The article discusses the essence of the concept of "self-education", "self-educational activities". The contents of such psychological mechanisms as self-knowledge, reflection, self-determination of a University teacher in improving their work as a teacher are analyzed, its main types are defined and characterized, as well as a set of methodological skills aimed at the effective implementation of professional and pedagogical activities of teacher is analyzed.
