The article discusses the results of study methodological competence of a foreign language teacher. As a result of the analysis of research literature, we have given a universal definition of methodological competence, revealed essence, theoretical and methodological foundations, structure and levels of manifestation in the practice of a foreign language teacher are revealed. We also conducted an analysis of the components of the methodological training of a foreign language teacher and considered their correlation with the components of methodological competence.
