This article makes a case for the relevance of philosophy in the study and practice of education. It is written primarily from an Anglophone, and especially from a UK, perspective. The essay has three main sections. The first one provides an analysis of the political and institutional context in the UK and of the trajectory of philosophy of education. The second part identifies current trends in philosophy of education in the UK. The last part focuses on the ways in which the philosophy of education can have a bearing on educational policy and practice.
