We have shown that the Fano interference in thedecay channels of a three-level system can lead to considerablydifferent absorption and emission profiles. Wefound that a coherence can be built up in the ground statedoublet, with strength depending on a coupling parameterthat arises from the Fano interference. The coherence canin principle lead to breaking of the detail balance betweenthe absorption and emission processes in atomic systems
