The aim of the experiment was to assess the influence of temperatures (5/10oC and 10/20oC) and light (12h of light or total darkness) on germination of 8 wild oat (Avena fatua L.) varieties, comparing to oats cv. Sprinter. Germinative energy (after 5 days), germination rate (after 10 days) and germination rate index (after 21 days) were measured. Also, length of coleoptile and radicle and dry mass of one seedling after 21 days were measured. Wild oat varieties emerged more intensively in higher temperature. At the beginning, light promoted but then inhibited germination of seeds. At higher temperature and in darkness wild oat developed longer coleoptile and radicle. Variety E (Avena fatua subsp. fatua (L.) var. acidophila Kieć.), which occurs rarely on crop-fields, germinated significantly poorly, comparing to other varieties.
