Economic dispatch is an important optimization problem in power system planning. This article presents an overview of the economic dispatch formulation, its objective, loss coefficient determination, and a case study. In the case study, different scenarios of the economic dispatch in the main interconnected system (MIS) of Oman were considered to highlight the importance of considering losses in the optimization process.
