"Taking as a starting point the volumeRomanian Literature as World Literature, theessay investigates the relationships betweenthe so-called major and the so-called minorliterature. It also challenges all those approacheswhich claim that in the era of globalization andthe Internet, the literary scene is a flat spacewhere continental, national, and regionalconditions of hegemony or subalternity are nolonger present. The essay further questions theparadox according to which critical operationsaimed at contesting certain cultural hegemonies, and primarily the United States, have betterreception when promoted by institutionsbelonging to hegemonic cultures than whenthey are promoted by institutions of peripheralcountries."
