"Matei Vișniec was exiled in WesternEurope before the fall of the totalitarian regimein his native country, Romania. The traumas ofhis life experience have left an important mark inthe writer’s conscience as a result of which, afterbecoming a well-known Francophone writer,he started to denounce this terror in his plays, notably the trilogy that constitutes “the trial ofcommunism through theatre”. This article drawsattention to Vișniec’s ethical attitude, the writingtechniques utilized in the trilogy and the way inwhich intellectuals can deploy resistance in such aterrifying atmosphere."
