"The subversive spirit of Matei Vișniecmoves around the land of the forbidden andthe censored. In Occidental Express (2009) therevolutionary idea takes the shape of a train ofhope, heading to Paris, a heavenly mirage formigrants blinded by the lights on the horizon.Starting from the analysis of this sequenceof tableaux vivants, this paper aims to reflecton the relationships that binds Utopia topostdramatic writing methods. Utopia is to beunderstood as a possibility for the intellectualto defeat the power relationships linking theconsumerist West and the austerity of thecommunist regime, but also as a check sufferedby the intellectual himself when he tries tooverstep the laws of the system."
