"After the fall of the Berlin Wall, numerousresearch projects were devoted to betterunderstanding the organization of political, social,economic and cultural life in totalitarian regimes.In the German-speaking area, the reflection hasoften been conducted through a more or lessclose comparison of the National Socialist andthe East German Socialist states. In the first partof the issue I discuss the potential and limits ofthis juxtaposition. In the second part I proposea close reading of Bertolt Brecht’s paper “FünfSchwierigkeiten beim Schreiben der Wahrheit”."
