The modern development of the world and Russian economies is inextricably linked with the growing role of information technology (IT). Currently, the transition to a digital economy has become a major trend in world economic development. This type of economy involves the intellectualization of all types of activities and the informatization of technological pro-cesses. One of the priorities of the country's development is the modernization of the econ-omy, which is impossible without the availability of qualified personnel to ensure the growth of labor productivity. The purpose of the article is to analyze the staffing of the IT industry at the federal and regional levels. The paper studies the theoretical aspects of staffing, analyz-es the trends in the main indicators characterizing the staffing of the IT industry at the fed-eral and regional levels (on example of the Vologda region), based on which the main prob-lems are identified
