Today, when the issues of transition to a digital economy are openly discussed due to changes in the forms and methods of providing financial services to consumers, the importance of analyzing the process of organizing cash circulation is growing, since no state in modern conditions can abandon the use of cash. At the same time, the share of cash circulation in the money circulation of different countries continues to decline gradually due to the development of digital channels for the issuance of money and infrastructure. There have been studied the Russian and foreign research works on analyzing cash circulation as the most important direction in realizing the monetary policy of individual countries by central banks, as well as identifying the advantages and disadvantages of using cash in modern conditions. The basic concepts of monetary policy (monetarism, Keynesianism and their later versions) and their influence on the money supply and economic growth have been presented. The factors affecting the change in the economic nature of cash due to the influence of digitization of the economy are considered. The conclusions are drawn on new forms of using money - cryptocurrencies. It has been stated that the monetary mechanism of stability of this monetary system should be built (emission rules, adaptation to the needs of commodity circulation in the economic system, interaction with the existing traditional monetary system of the country, etc.). When endowing a cryptocurrency with all the fullness of the properties and functions of money and providing it with highly liquid assets or guarantees from the state or from the economic authorities served by the cryptocurrency of economic systems, the latter can become a new digital form of money.
