The article analyzes the experience of sociological research of civil identity and patriotism in Russia. The main theoretical and methodological approaches are considered, the main methods and tools used by Federal research companies are described. An example of a study in a particular region - the Astrakhan region has been given. Conclusions have been made about the possibility of analyzing the indicators of civic identity and patriotism among Russians and residents of Astrakhan. The problem of civic identity, solidarity and patriotic unity is essential for the Astrakhan region which is a border area with polytechnic and polyconfessional population.
