The purpose of the article is to present to the reader the impact of the restrictions of the Sulfur Directive on users of areas under strict sulfur emission control. The requirement to adapt to the new legal regulations has forced naval units shipowners to use alternative fuels. In order to fulfil the IMO regulations concerning the release of pollutants in areas ECA shipowners as navigational fuel are using the liquefied natural gas (LNG).The first chapter of the publication presents general information about the introduced changes related to the Sulfur Directive. Furthermore, he aspect of the use of LNG as the fuel for marine units was discussed and the cells of the simplified LNG supply chain were characterized. The third chapter analyzes the economic price of LNG against oil prices.
