LANGUAGE NOTE | Document text in English; abstract also in Chinese. There has been tremendous progress made in the provision of recreation and sports facilities and programmes for the public in Hong Kong in the last 25 years, since the establishment of the former Recreation and Sports Service by the government in 1974 to organize recreation and sports activities for the public in the districts. This paper attempts to review the development of recreation and sports in Hong Kong in the last 25 years from 1974 to 1999 and make suggestions to improve the leisure delivery system in order to provide a better service for the people of Hong Kong.
