The purpose of the study was to analyze the prevalence of comorbid pathologies in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and the effect of comorbidity on the course of disease in the light of existing recommendations on supervision of COPD patients and from the standpoint of our own experience. We made an analysis of prevalence of arterial hypertension, coronary heart disease, diabetes mellitus, and psychosomatic disorders in patients with COPD. The analysis of the world data revealed that comorbidity in patients with COPD was diagnosed much less frequently, which may be preconditioned with the problems of under-diagnosis for COPD itself. At the same time, patients with comorbid conditions were diagnosed a number of serious clinical syndromes that predetermined the course and severity of the disease. Administration of beta-blockers to patients with COPD is effective and safe and may positively influence the prognosis for those patients.
