In learning process basic mechanical engineering is seen that students tend to be passive, as hearers only, reluctant to express opinions. The purpose of research study is to explore effectiveness of talking stick method in learning process in mechanical engineering in SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Padang. Students of class X has been selected as the research subject. Observation sheets used to collect data on learning activity process and objective test used to know learning outcome of this method. Research conducted in two cycles. The result in cycle 1, the value of learning activity is 62.2% and 81.03% in cycle 2. The value of clasical completeness 61.90% in cycle 1 and 76.19% in cycle 2. Th average of learning outome in cycle 1 is 75.54 and 84.04 in cycle 2.
