The deterioration of weather and climatic conditions and soil conditions, resulting in unstable harvest volumes and its quality, an increase in the population requires the creation of new approaches to strengthening the fodder and food base. The article discusses perennial grasses, annual and perennial crops, and the prospects for their use in feed and food production. Special attention is paid to green fodder, which can be obtained from perennial grasses, as well as some annual and perennial cereals. Analysis of the literature data has shown that the use of perennial grain crops instead of annual crops is a promising area of research that will allow the agricultural market to function stably and improve food security.
