The correct name Comptonia difformis (Sternb.) Berry is discussed against its later homonym Comptonia acutiloba Brongn. 1828. The name Comptonia difformis is based on the first legitimately published name Aspleniopteris difformis Sternb. 1825. This name is treated as nomen novum and not as a new combination based on an illegitimate name Asplenium difforme Sternb. 1821.
