This paper considers the problem of producing quarterly estimates of provincial and national vital events. Modern time‐series methods would appear to be a promising tool for the short‐range forecasts required for the birth, death, and marriage series. Considerations in the choice of a suitable model are described, and a possible model for the marriage data is illustrated.
