As Mr. Swan was going to the Brussels conference he was invited to write his impressions from the point of view of the applied statistician. Mr. Swan says that a certain amount of time was devoted to the use of statistical thinking as a tool for management, and infers from the interest expressed that more attention will have to be given to statistics at the next conference. This time statistics entered into the discussions of work measurement, quality control, and job evaluation.
