This article is an interesting fellow to Mr. Jessop's article one Line or Two? since it illustrates by a practical example the problem of choosing the most suitable line in regression analysis. It also illustrates the treatment of heterogeneous data. Mr. Spendley describes how corresponding readings of gas flow measured by two types of flowmeter were used to obtain a calibration curve for one of the types and to estimate the errors involved in using this curve.
