At the end of October 1954 the Verdon Smith Committee appointed to advise the President of the Board of Trade on future policy on Censuses of Production and Distribution made its report. Some six months earlier an assessment had been made by the Intensive Review Committee of the American statistical programme carried out by the Bureau of the Census. Miss Maurice compares the post‐war policies of the two countries on industrial censuses, which were examined by these committees, and gives tables showing the kinds of information which have been collected.
