The British Census of Distribution has been surrounded by controversy, some of which seems to have been more heated than enlightened; Mr Clark's article sheds light on the subject. After a brief historical introduction there are a description of the Census and some indication of the uses of the results in the broad fields of economics and public policy and in solving problems arising in business.
