S ummary A sequential procedure for testing up to k upper outliers in an exponential sample is proposed. The important special cases k = 2, 3, 4 are considered in detail and appropriate critical values tabulated. The flexibility of this procedure compared to existing tests is demonstrated using sensitivity contours and examples. A companion procedure for testing for lower outliers is also considered.
