Summary Hormone assay data are generally analysed by fitting a linear model to a transformation of the variables. An alternative approach which has proved to be very successful for a variety of assays is proposed, and involves the use of a fairly general empirical model. An outline is given of the fitting procedure and two examples presented. The reliability of the standard errors of concentration estimates obtained from the fitted model are checked by means of Monte Carlo methods.
