Summary This paper outlines the main objectives and the design of the waterfowl harvest mail surveys that are being currently undertaken in Canada and the United States and the non‐sampling errors involved. Some of the recent developments in techniques to estimate the magnitude of the errors and make necessary adjustments in the estimates of the characteristics are presented, based on special studies undertaken in Canada.
