Compilation of scattered literature records, together with unpublished observations by the authors, provides an impression that carnivory is not uncommon among various species of Diplopoda. Most of the species known to consume food of animal origin are obviously omnivores, but members of at least one order, the Callipodida, appear to be preferentially carnivorous. On the basis of existing information, omnivory seems to be most common among members of the least specialized taxonomic groups.
